In life, we inevitably face adversity. It could be the loss of a loved one or being in a financially challenging position. As a mixed martial artist, Eddie Ng, ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) top lightweight contender and Berocca ambassador, faces adversity such as injury and defeat. How does he overcome them and stay strong?
Here are five tips from Eddie:
- Accept that adversity is a part of life.
If you can come out the other side of it, you will become a much better person. It’s just like a hard training session where you are thoroughly exhausted – your thighs are burning, your heart is bursting out of your chest soon and you struggled to complete the session, but you know that you will emerge stronger after.
- Have a strong support system consisting of friends and family that you can trust.
It is important to have a solid support network built around you, so that you always have someone to talk to and confide your problems in. These are the people who will hold you up when you are down and stand by you in times of difficulty.
- Find inspiration from other people.
There are more than seven billion people in the world and chances are you’re not the only one who has experienced this adversity. Search for similar experiences and take a leaf or two from them.
- Change your perspective on things.
Don’t be a pessimist! Instead, turn bad things into good things. It takes mental strength to focus on positivity so cue in on making each adversity into an opportunity. Try taking a different perspective on the situation.
- Invest in yourself.
Understand who you are, what you like and what your life ambitions are. Start exercising, eat well and treat yourself right. Your body is what you live in and it deserves to be given the best, so don’t hesitate to invest in yourself mentally, physically and emotionally to get a better feel for how your body works.
