This year I have added a new dimension to fitness, by doing it for a cause. I was one of the charity ambassadors for Sundown Marathon, and I recently raised funds for Children-At-Risk-Empowerment (CARE) Association Singapore through the KM Duathlon.

Through those experiences, I found greater meaning to these events as there is something good coming out of my participation other than just completing it well. With the intention of wanting to drive more charity initiatives through these events, I was excited when I read about the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Charity Run. It is exactly what I hoped to do more of – run for charity!

To be held on 2 November at the F1 pit building, the main objective behind the SIA Charity Run is to raise funds for the Community Chest, which supports 226 social service programmes that help over 300,000 beneficiaries. Beneficiaries include children with special needs and youths-at-risk, people with disabilities, frail and lonely elderly, and families facing difficulties.

The SIA Charity Run is part of the lead-up to Singapore’s 50th birthday in 2015, together with the Care & Share Movement where net proceeds will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government.

Categories include 10km Competitive Run, 5km Fun Run, 300m Kids Dash for children 4 to 12, and a Corporate Challenge (five runners of 10km each). Winners of the 10km Competitive Run and Corporate Challenge will prizes in the form of air tickets.

All participants will be entitled to a lucky draw where they can win a pair of SIA Business Class return tickets to a destination of their choice. SIA KrisFlyer and PPS Club members will stand to win 50,000 KrisFlyer miles.

You may register for the SIA Charity Run on their website and also make additional donations to Community Chest when making payment.

I will be doing the 10km, so come join me and I hope to see you there too!
