The biggest running event in Singapore, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM), has always been a place where people achieve new goals, overcome personal barriers and create new dreams.
This year, SCSM will be held over two days – 8 and 9 December. The Kids Dash, 5km (new category!) and 10km will take place on Saturday, whilst the Ekiden, half-marathon and full marathon will be on Sunday. The two-day format means runners can get to enjoy a more spacious run with less congestion on the route.
You know what’s super cute? The Kids Dash is at a new venue – Universal Studios Singapore – so after they complete their run, they can spend the rest of the day at USS for free (accompanied by a paid adult of course).
SCSM has a lot of interesting initiatives too, like the Running Club Challenge where you can represent a running club and contribute points, the 300km Club which is for those who have clocked over 300km since the SCSM 2010, and also the Women Squad, an all-ladies training programme for women only!
Being the last major running event for the year, SCSM is a race that many work towards throughout the entire year; giving them a purpose to their training. Year-end vacations are then booked after the race!
I’ve witnessed several of my friends achieving their goals at SCSM – be it trying a new distance or scoring a personal best – and I’ve also stood at the finish line to scream and cheer for runners. This is where dreams are made. Have you signed up yet?
