It’s the first time that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in Southeast Asia and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to cover this history-writing event. Held at Marina Bay Sands, the UFC Fight Night 34 was attended by a sell-out crowd of 5,200. It was four days of UFC for me last week, starting with the open workout session on Wednesday, followed by media day and square-offs on Thursday, official weigh-in on Friday and FIGHT NIGHT on Saturday!
There were 10 bouts – six prelims and four on the main card. I had the fortunate opportunity to shoot the six prelim fights. Here’s a quick recap:
Doane beat Leandro Issa via technical submission to a triangle choke in second round
Dustin Kimura beat John De Los Reyes by arm bar submission in first round
Mairbek Talsumov beat Tae Hyun Bang by unanimous decision after three rounds
Royston Wee beat Dave Galera by unanimous decision after three rounds
Katsunori Kikuno beat Quin Mulhern by unanimous decision after three rounds
Max Holloway beat Will Chope with TKO (punches) in second round
