Coca-Cola Singapore launches ‘Movement is Happiness’

Most of us know that physical activity is required for good health, but most of us find many reasons not to move. In line with its global commitments to help fight obesity, Coca-Cola Singapore launched Movement is Happiness™ – an initiative which aims to show Singaporeans the emotional benefits of physical activity, with an expert panel discussion.

The company also kicked off the first of a series of Movement is Happiness™ activity stations at Wisma Atria, to inspire people to find fun ways to move in our daily lives. The pop-up stations will provide people with the opportunity to build more movement into their lives and will include fun activities such as hula hoops, flying discs and beach balls.

THE MORE YOU MOVE, THE HAPPIER YOU FEEL!

Coca-Cola Singapore launches Movement is Happiness™ initiative to inspire a generation of Singaporeans to be healthier and happier through movement.

Following the global commitments made last year to help fight obesity, Coca-Cola Singapore is taking active steps to get people up and moving.  The Company announced the launch of its Movement is Happiness™ initiative which aims to educate Singaporeans about the emotional benefits of physical activity.

Beyond physical health, studies have also shown that exercising has a direct effect on mental health. Just 30 minutes of brisk exercise thrice a week has been found to help improve overall happiness and well-being while relieving symptoms of everyday stress[1].  Movement is Happiness™ aims to show how daily movement can pave the way for a release of endorphins to build our emotional happiness[2], making Singapore a happier and healthier society.

From 21 March to end of April, Coca-Cola will be inviting Singaporeans to get moving at Movement is Happiness™ activity stations at various locations across Singapore.  The pop-up stations will provide people with the opportunity to build more movement into their lives and will include fun activities such as hula hoops, flying discs and beach balls.  Coca-Cola has also partnered with Spotify to launch a ‘Move Happy’ Facebook app, which allows users to create personalised music playlists for their daily activities.  The App will launch at the end of the month.

With recent reports finding that only 1 in 3 people in Singapore actually exercise on a regular basis[3], it is no wonder we have one of the unhappiest workforces ever[4].  Obesity expert, Chief of Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital, and Chairman of Exercise is Medicine™ Singapore, Dr Benedict Tan believes that Singaporeans need to re-shape the way they think about physical activity, “The conveniences of modern day living have led to a reduction in physical activity levels, and this lack of physical activity is the fourth biggest contributor of premature death globally. Being sedentary is unnatural to the human body, and we need to counteract that by making an effort to be active.”

Coca-Cola Singapore recently partnered with the Health Promotion Board to launch their ‘Million Kilo Challenge’ programme and at the end of this month they will be partnering the National Parks Board and the Exercise is Medicine™ Singapore taskforce to create more opportunities for Singaporeans to get moving.
